Viggo Joins The Road
Word on the street is that apocalypse films are definitely “in” at the moment. Not a bad trend when good examples of the genre like Right At Your Door (review), Mulberry Street (review) and Neil Marshall’s juggernaut of a movie Doomsday are all set to drop over the next few months.
Today Entertainment Weekly got word that Viggo Mortensen is signed on to play the lead in The Road, which we first told you about right here. Viggo will play a father who must lead his son across the barren wasteland of what once had been the United States after some unnamed major catastrophe. A very poignant novel with some of the most brutal moments and disturbing imagery I have ever read, The Road is going to be quite a vision to see what two intensely talented people like Proposition director John Hillcoat and Mortensen bring to this highly anticipated project.
This has immediately jumped into the top of my “MUST SEE!” list.
It’s going to be a hell of a year for McCarthy fans too, with his other books No Country For Old Men and Blood Meridian (possibly my favorite novel…ever) being adapted by The Coen Bros. and Ridley Scott, respectively.
Oh. Hell. Yes.
