Exclusive: Livestreaming Gets Dark In DUST’s Upcoming Short LIVE

This coming Thursday, DUST, the sci-fi short film platform powered by Gunpowder & Sky, will be releasing Live, a new short that was written and directed by Taryn O’Neill, who also stars. Today, we’re here to bring you an exclusive first look at the short by revealing the below teaser.

The short follows a woman who works both as an underground fighter and as a livestreamer in a world where sponsorships are the key to survival. Broken both emotionally as well as physically, she must push herself to remain “on” for her audience, giving over the most basic of choices to their votes.

In a day and age where livestreaming and vlogging are becoming normal ways for people to earn a living as well as acceptable means of entertainment, this short feels a bit prescient. To be honest, not only does it not feel all that far-fetched, it feels like we’re already kind of at this point, minus the technology.

Live follows an online ‘livecaster,’ under the eye of an A.I. camera system, who has a crisis of conscience in a future where jobs are limited and conflict is currency. But in a future where A.I. and automation have decimated the job market and where personal conflict is currency, what options does she have?

Written and directed by Taryn O’Neill, Live stars O’Neill, Tyler Wiseman, America Young, and Mig Micario.

You can watch the full short on August 22 on DUST’s YouTube channel.
