TV Series Based on All-Female Horror Anthology XX in the Works

The horror anthology XX, comprised of four short films written and directed by female filmmakers, was one of the surprise horror hits of 2017. Now, we’re getting word that a TV series based on the film is in the works. Our friends at Syfy got the exclusive:

Producers Jovanka Vuckovic, Todd Brown, and Raquelle David are in development on the anthology series, which will hire female screenwriters and female directors to bring new scary stories to the small screen.

Vuckovic shared details of this project with SYFY WIRE FANGRRLS during the Fantasia International Film Festival while promoting her feature directorial debut Riot Girls, a post-apocalyptic fantasy film that boasts a lot of women in front of and behind the camera. In the interview, Vuckovic spoke about how it was important to her to create opportunities for women in her work. With the XX spinoff, she’ll be continuing this mission.

If you missed XX in 2017, check out the synopsis and trailer below.

Synopsis:
Filmmakers Jovanka Vuckovic, Annie Clark, Roxanne Benjamin and Karyn Kusama present four horrific tales of terror. In “The Box,” a boy (Peter DaCunha) starts to display strange behavior after looking inside a mysterious gift box. In “The Birthday Party,” a woman (Melanie Lynskey) refuses to let an untimely death ruin her son’s bash. In “Don’t Fall,” an innocent camping trip turns deadly, and in “Her Only Living Son,” a mother (Christina Kirk) must deal with the child from hell.
