Exclusive: Before And After Images Show How Pretty THE STAND Blu-ray Restoration Is Going To Be

Twenty-five years ago, Stephen King and Mick Garris teamed up for an ABC miniseries that adapted King’s novel The Stand for the small screen. A four-episode event, the series brought to life King’s 800+ page novel, earning it two Primetime Emmy Awards as well as several nominations. And now the series is coming to Blu-ray on September 24.

Today, we’ve been given a couple of images that show the before and after of such a restoration. You’ll see the graininess is seriously scaled back, the colors pop more, and the details seem sharper than ever. For King fans, this is certainly the definitive version to own.

A supervirus that leaked from a lab kills most of the population in what appears to be The Plague (Part 1). The survivors share The Dreams (Part 2). Then they fight to stay alive as they break into groups of good and evil in The Betrayal (Part 3). The Stand (Part 4) between good and evil is the final episode.

Written by Stephen King and directed by Mick Garris, The Stand stars Gary Sinise, Molly Ringwald, Jamey Sheridan, Ruby Dee, Laura San Giacomo, and Rob Lowe. Stephen King also cameos in each episode with additional appearances by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, John Landis, Shawnee Smith, Warren Frost, Sam Raimi, Kathy Bates, Ed Harris, and more.
