Industrial rock group Bones UK have released a video for their cover of David Bowie‘s “I’m Afraid of Americans”, which was directed by Eric Thirteen (producer of DREAD’s Director’s Cut).
“Bones UK came to me with icon subversions of Americana,” Thirteen recalls. “It was just before they signed, so we were on zero budget and had only a few hours to shoot. I wanted to see their characters in moving portraits. It’s the surreal nightmare of Only God Forgives by way of Eraserhead.”
“The music video looks at the seedy underbelly of what we’re being sold. Under the surface of the squeaky clean images, the horrors we don’t talk about,” Thirteen continues.
“I’m Afraid of Americans” was originally written by David Bowie and Brian Eno. It was a single on the 1997 album Earthling. It spent 16 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, Bowie‘s last single to do so until “Blackstar” and “Lazarus” after his passing.
Their self-titled debut album comes out this Friday. You can pre-order the album through their official website.
