BIFAN 2019: New Trailer Ushers In Asia’s Premier Film Festival

South Korea’s Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) has unveiled its lineup for this year’s fest and the genre-heavy fest is certainly making no bones about being heavily influenced by sci-fi films of yore. In fact, this year’s fest will have “Robots: Future Beyond the Human Race”, a program devoted to classic sci-fi titles such as Blade Runner, Westworld, Forbidden Planet, Weird Sciene, and more.

The festival will open with Edgar Nito’s The Gasoline Thieves, an award-winning film from this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, while Ko Myoungsung’s The 12th Suspect will be the closing film.

This year, the festival will run a couple of weeks earlier than normal, taking place June 27 through July 7. With 288 films this year (170 features, 118 shorts), BIFAN will be home to 22 feature-length World Premieres, 27 feature-length International Premieres, and 50 feature-length Asian Premieres. Below are a small handful of titles playing at this year’s BIFAN

In full disclosure, I have been selected as a jury member for the Bucheon Choice category. I am honored to be on this jury alongside the esteemed Japanese director Shusuke Kaneko, who directed three Gamera films, as well as South Korean actress Uhm Jung-hwa, and South Korean director E.oni.

More information about BIFAN can be found on their official website.
