Tyrese Gibson Shares Photo From London Set Of MORBIUS

After the huge success of Venom at the box office, it didn’t come as much of a surprise to learn that Sony is pressing forward with their own shared universe featuring the roughly 900 Marvel characters they own the film rights to. Unlike the Marvel Studios-produced Spider-Man: Homecoming, and its sequel, Far From Home, the films in Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters (yes, that really is what it’s called) will not be connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in any way, instead forming their own separate franchise.

Sony also clearly did not waste any time when it came to moving the franchise along, because Morbius has already started filming in London. Directed by Daniel Espinosa of Life and Safe House fame, the film will focus on the popular character Morbius the Living Vampire, who first appeared in issue 101 of The Amazing Spider-Man and was also featured in a deleted scene from the first Blade movie.

Although It doesn’t open until next year, Tyrese Gibson revealed a photo from the London set of Morbius on his Instagram account. The image shows Gibson standing alongside Espinosa, who he describes as being ‘beyond brilliant’. Check out the post below.

Gibson will star as Simon Stroud, an FBI agent trying to track down the titular scientist Michael Morbius, who accidentally turns himself into a vampire after attempting to cure his rare blood disease. Morbius will be played by Oscar winner Jared Leto, who finally deserves a prominent role in a comic book movie after his all too brief appearance as the Joker in Suicide Squad. Adria Arjona will also appear as his fiancée, Martine Bancroft, who probably won’t be too happy to learn that her future husband is now a vampire.

Morbius is being produced by Columbia Pictures in association with Marvel Entertainment and, as we’ve already stressed, it will have no connection to the MCU. Sony will release the film on July 31, 2020.
