BRIGHTBURN Will Be Rated R! Will This Be the Superhero/Horror Movie We’ve Waited Years For?

Despite being promised an R-rated superhero adventure with horror undertones in Venom, Sony got cold feet, cut the most grusome scenes, and released the Spider-Man spinoff as a PG-13 produc. Still, horror fans continue to be titilated by the prospect of an R-rated superhero movie, something that truly crosses over into horror territory. Now, it looks like Brightburn could be the hero horror movie we’ve been craving!

Produced by James Gunn, we just got news that Brightburn will be Rated-R for horror violence! Now that’s music to our ears! The film is clearly a subversion of the now-archetypal Superman story arch, and the R-rating means director David Yarovesky won’t have to pull any punches.

The trailers we’ve seen so far for Brightburn have all been fantastic. Give the most recent one a look-see below.

Synopsis:
What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister? With Brightburn, the visionary filmmaker of Guardians of the Galaxy and Slither presents a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror.

David Yarovesky directed Brightburn from a screenplay penned by Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn; the film stars Elizabeth Banks, David Denman, and Matt Jones. Look for Brightburn to crash into US theaters begining May 24th.
