There’s a Stephen King Easter Egg in the Poster for ANNABELLE COMES HOME! Can You Spot It?

We recently shared the poster for the next installment in The Conjuring Universe, Annabelle Comes Home (the third spinoff to star the diminutive devil doll). We see Annabelle in her box among the collection of cursed items the Warrens have collected over their long careers as demonologists. One of the other objects is a nod to the first Conjuring movie (the music box) for example.

One of the other objects in the poster for Annabelle Comes Home is actually a Stephen King Easter Egg. Can you spot it? The answer is revealed below the poster.

The monkey playing the accordian in the lower left-hand corner is strikingly similar to a symbol clapping, wind-up toy on the cover of Stephen King’s short story collection, The Skeleton Crew. It’s a tie in to a tale called “The Monkey” and the vintage toy is indeed a cursed object, making it quite fitting for the Warren’s collection.

In “The Monkey” someone dies every time the symbols clap.

Why would producers for The Conjuring include a shout out to Stephen King? Besides the fact that everyone loves the bestselling author (and the toy is a damn cool/creepy Easter Egg), there’s another connection: Annabelle Comes Home writer/director Gary Dauberman is the primary screenwriter of Andy Muschietti’s IT: Chapter One and the upcoming IT: Chapter Two.

Annabelle Comes Home haunts US theaters begining June 28th; the film stars Vera Farmiga, Mckenna Grace, and Patrick Wilson.
