HBO’s Miniseries CHERNOBYL is a Nightmarish Take on True Life Horror

On May 6, HBO will be premiering their new miniseries Chernobyl, which dramatizes one of the worst accidents to occur on the planet. The miniseries will follow several people who were directly affected by the nuclear meltdown, from politicians who work diligently to cover the story up to the families of first responders.

A trailer for the series has been released and can be seen below. This is horror along the lines of Contagion and Outbreak, the realistic horror that terrifies because it could actually happen. In this case, it did and the world is still reeling from its effects.

On April 26, 1986, the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine, Soviet Union suffered a massive explosion that released radioactive material across Belarus, Russia and Ukraine and as far as Scandinavia and western Europe. Chernobyl dramatizes the story of the 1986 accident, one of the worst man-made catastrophes in history, and the sacrifices made to save Europe from the unimaginable disaster.

Chernobyl stars Jared Harris, Stellan Skarsgård and Emily Watson. The series was written and produced by Craig Mazin and directed by Johan Renck.
