Jason Blum Says HAPPY DEATH DAY 3 Unlikely… But Not Impossible

Happy Death Day was one of the surprise horror hits of 2017. Sure, it was basically just a variation of the established Groundhogs Day formula, but a crackling script and talented cast made it an entertaining romp from start to finish. And while the sequel, Happy Death Day 2U, was just as good artistically, it’s simply not resonating with horror fans like the original did.

Which is probably why Jason Blum’s outlook on a third Happy Death Day movies isn’t particularly optimistic. When asked about the possibility of Happy Death Day 3 coming to fruition (via Twitter), the maverick head of Blumhouse said it was unlikely “but not impossible”.

It’s a shame since a post-credits scene in Happy Death Day 2U set up the perfect continuation for a film that would have concluded the story as a trilogy. We can do our best to remain optimistic about seeing Tree and company again someday, but don’t hold your breath.

Happy Death Day 2U is still playing in select theaters nationwide; if it’s no longer screening in your neck of the woods, we’re estimating the Blu-ray/DVD will drop sometime this May. We’ll keep you posted as details emerge. Stay tuned! In the meantime, enjoy the trailer and synopsis for Happy Death Day 2U below.

Synopsis:
Collegian Tree Gelbman wakes up in horror to learn that she’s stuck in a parallel universe. Her boyfriend Carter is now with someone else, and her friends and fellow students seem to be completely different versions of themselves. When Tree discovers that Carter’s roommate has been altering time, she finds herself once again the target of a masked killer. When the psychopath starts to go after her inner circle, Tree soon realizes that she must die over and over again to save everyone.

Happy Death Day 2U is written and directed by Christopher Landon and stars Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard, and Phi Vu.
