Video Store Commercial is So Awesome It’s Being Screened at SXSW This Weekend
We know that anyone with a product to sell wants a commercial, and we know that some ad agencies employ top-notch Hollywood talent to create truly compelling adverts (for those who can afford them). But has a commercial ever elevated above its intended purpose, so much so that it’s considered a genuine work of art? Yes, and you can see it at SXSW this weekend!

Full disclosure: It’s actually a short film about making a commercial. So yes, it’s great press for The Lobby DVD Shop, but it’s also pure entertainment!

The Edmonton Journal reported:
The Video Store Commercial is a madcap and style-hopping short film filmed downstairs at Kevin Martin’s The Lobby DVD Shop (10815 82 Ave.), starring the long-haired, longtime business owner in a fictional narrative where he’s attempting to make a promotional video to attract more customers — the real-life reason for shooting the footage in the first place.
Straight to Video: The B-Movie Odyssey will screen this Saturday as part of SXSW’s Midnight Shorts Program at 8:30 PM (Austin Time).
The Edmonton Journal also reports that Martin hoped to turn Straight to Video into a feature film or series, but couldn’t raise the funding. Perhaps he’ll meet future collaborators and/or producers at
