Rest in Peace: THE PRODIGY’s Keith Flint Has Died at 49

Incredibly sad news as Keith Flint, frontman of the UK electronic group The Prodigy, has apparently taken his own life at the age of 49. The group confirmed it via their Instagram page where they wrote, “The news is true, I can’t believe I’m saying this but our brother Keith took his own life over the weekend, I’m shell shocked, fuckin angry, confused and heart broken ….. r.i.p brother Liam.”

The Prodigy‘s first album was 1992’s Experience. After 1994’s Music for the Jilted Generation, the group achieved international success with their 1997 multi-platinum selling album The Fat of the Land, which featured two of their career’s biggest hits: “Smack my Bitch Up” and “Firestarter”. While Flint was a part of the band since 1990, this was the first album he was credited on, providing vocals for four tracks: “Breathe”, “Serial Thrilla”, “Firestarter”, and “Fuel My Fire”. The album nearly won a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album, losing to Radiohead‘s OK Computer.

The band’s music was often featured in film and TV show soundtracks, such as Lucifer, Event Horizon, Spawn, The Matrix, and House of Wax, amongst many others.

We send our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and bandmates of Keith Flint in this terribly tragic time.

We also want to take a moment to say that depression, addiction, and/or suicidal thoughts are serious problems and there are people that can help. We urge anyone experiencing any or all of these to ask a friend or family member for help or to seek assistance. Your life has meaning. Please never feel like you’re alone.
