Is the “Mountain Kaiju” in GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS Trailers Rokmutul?

When the Big G hits US theaters on May 31st in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, we know that the iconic kaiju will be contending with Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah, but these are by no means the only “Titans” moviegoers may encounter. A Monarch Sciences website has revealed locations around the world where creatures are being investigated, but the details are, for the most part, confidential.

Still, we’ve seen some characters popping up (literally) in the Godzilla: King of the Monsters trailers that haven’t been identified. The first is an arachnid type monstrosity that emerges from an oil field and the second is an armored earth-dweller that has been dormant so long, it became indistinguishable from the surrounding mountainous terrain. Today, we’re talking about the later.

The most recent TV spot for Godzilla: King of the Monsters gave us our best look at this “Mountain Kaiju” yet, and our friends at HN Networks have been working like sleuths to identify it. In the video above, they confirm this beast’s location and make a compelling hypothesis: Could this be Rokmutul?

If you’re not familiar with this kaiju, here’s the gist via Gorjipedia:

Rokmutul is an unmade reptilian kaiju from the 2014 Godzilla film, Godzilla. Rokmutul resembles Anguirus or an Ankylosaurus very closely, with the spikes running down its back and its armory appearance. It has a streamlined crocodilian body, and spikes on its tail closely resembling those of a Stegosaurus. It also has six legs, making it resemble the unnamed multi-legged monster, though that monster had at least eight legs.
