Todd McFarlane Hopes for VENOM/SPAWN Crossover One Day

Todd McFarlane isn’t just the creative mastermind who invented Spawn, he’s also the co-creator of Venom. Considering the former is in pre-production while the later was a smashing success (despite being a PG-13 affair that only received mixed reviews), it seems only natural that McFarlane dreams of a crossover in the not too distant future.

“No matter who distributes Spawn, the first thing you will see in every trailer will be ‘From the co-creator of Venom’. So, my question to Sony is why would you let one of your competitors use that line, given that it was your effort that made Venom work? I think it’s worth asking, then, what if they both work?”

This is but one of the details discussed in Looper’s latest update on the status of Spawn, which you can watch at the top of the article. Spawn is currently laboring through pre-production over at Blumhouse; McFarlane seems to be irked by the film’s slow progression, as we recently reported. Read all about it in the link below.

Spawn doesn’t have an exact release date, but its IMDB page still claims the project hopes to hit silver screens sometime in 2019—although I’m beginning to have doubts, personally. Time will tell. Spawn will star Jeremy Renner and Jamie Foxx. We’ll keep you posted as details emerge. Stay tuned!

For the uninitiated, Here’s a bit about Spawn’s pre-antihero existence, via Fandom:

Albert “Al” Francis Simmons was born in Detroit, Michigan as the second of three brothers (Marc, Al, and Richard) to Esther and Bernard Simmons. Simmons was a very gifted officer of the United States Marine Corps, where he attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He later joined the United States Secret Service, which led to his transfer to the Central Intelligence Agency. In the CIA, Simmons was recruited by Director Jason Wynn into a special top-secret covert ops division known as the U.S. Security Group, an elite task force with jurisdiction in all domestic and foreign situations.
