Here’s Why GHOST STORIES Was the Best Horror Movie of 2018

A film that made both my own and Jonathan Barkan’s Top Horror Movies of 2018 lists was Ghost Stories. In my assessment, it’s probably the best of the underrated/underseen movies of last year, one that had all of the ingredients to become a massive hit but ended up falling through the cracks, merely attaining sleeper status.

In case our recommendations weren’t enough to inspire you to go out and see Ghost Stories ASAP, perhaps Ryan Hollinger can convince you. One of our favorite Irish film critics and academic recently released a video exploration of the film, which he dubs “The Best Horror Movie of 2018”. If this can’t convince you to give the film a look-see, nothing will.

Of course, Hollinger’s video is loaded with spoilers, so if you haven’t seen the film for yourself yet, best to bookmark this page and come back once you have. I know, it’s a paradox: The video will inspire you to see the movie but you had better see the movie first. A conundrum in the truest sense.

If you’re still on the fence, check out the synopsis and trailer for Ghost Stories below.

Synopsis:
Professor Phillip Goodman devotes his life to exposing phony psychics and fraudulent supernatural shenanigans. His skepticism soon gets put to the test when he receives news of three chilling and inexplicable cases — disturbing visions in an abandoned asylum, a car accident deep in the woods and the spirit of an unborn child. Even scarier — each of the macabre stories seems to have a sinister connection to the professor’s own life.

Ghost Stories is written and directed by Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman collaboratively; the film stars Andy Nyman, Martin Freeman, and Paul Whitehouse.
