OMG! GHOSTBUSTERS 3 is Actually Happening with Jason Reitman Directing

I honestly thought it would never happen. Rumors of Bill Murray’s resistance to making a 3rd Ghostbusters movie are legendary. “People don’t want to see old guys chasing ghosts,” he said; there are even claims he shredded an early screenplay penned by Dan Aykroyd. When we heard murmurs of somethings stirring late last year, I was like, “Yeah, I’ll believe it when I see it!”

Well, I’ll be gobsmacked. Ghostbusters 3 is actually happening with Murry and Aykroyd reunited; Variety got the exclusive scoop:

Sources tell Variety that Reitman, whose father, Ivan, directed the first two Ghostbusters movies, will direct the latest pic in the famous franchise. Reitman has also co-written a screenplay with Gil Kenan and plans to shoot the film this summer, with Sony planning to release the latest sequel in summer 2020. Insiders say this film will be a continuation of the 1984 sequel and will not be connected to the 2016 film. Sources couldn’t say if that means that the original cast members will be back, as exact story details are still being kept under wraps but sources say Reitman has begun testing teenagers for four mystery roles.

Sounds like the old guys will be passing torches to a new generation of Ghostbusters. Obviously, we’ll be following this story like hawks to bring you all details as they emerge. Stay tuned!
