Will We Finally See a NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET Reboot in 2021?

It’s been over 3 years since New Line announced another Nightmare on Elm Street reboot was brewing with screenwriter David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (Orphan, The Conjuring 2) retained to pen the script. It’s been quiet since then, but considering the record-breaking success of Halloween this year, you might think the studio would be motivated to put a new Freddy flick on the fast track.

Unfortunately, Johnson-McGoldrick recently talked to the folks at Gamespot, where he made it clear that, while still technically an active project, a new Nightmare movie has taken the backseat to a proven money-making franchise:

“It’s still happening. Nothing is percolating just yet. The Conjuring universe is sort of first and foremost on [New Line Cinema’s] horror burner. Everybody wants to see Freddy again I think, so I think it’s inevitable at some point.”

This is all just conjecture, but with Annabelle 3 arriving in 2019 and The Conjuring 3 slated for a 2020 release, it suggests the earliest a new Nightmare on Elm Street remake could come to fruition would be 2021. While fans are chomping at the bit for a return to Springwood, I think we’re all willing to wait until the movie can be done right. If that means waiting a couple years as opposed to throwing something together fast and cheap, so be it.
