Trailer for Unmade Kaiju Horror GAMERA 2016 is a Beautiful Beast!

When Godzilla: King of the Monsters arrives in US theaters on May 31st, we know for sure that the Big G will throw-down against Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah. While other “Titans” have been teased, no one knows for sure if these will be monsters from Toho’s stable, or original creation by Legendary. Still, fans have been talking about who they’d like to see, and the name Gamera pops up often.

Our chances of seeing Gamera joining in on the mayhem are slim to none, most likely due to the fact that the giant turtle isn’t one of Toho’s Kaiju: He was created by rival studio Daiei Film in 1965 in an attempt to siphon away off some of Godzilla’s dollars with some direct competition. To date, Gamera and Godzilla have never crossed paths cinematically, and don’t expect King of the Monsters to be the first time. Follow the link below for more details regarding Gamera’s complex relationship with Godzilla.

It’s worth noting, however, that New York Comic-Con fans were teased with the promise of a rebooted Gamera movie in 2015. Attendees were shown the trailer embedded at the top of the article and, we think you’ll agree, it’s a thing of beauty. Obviously, Gamera 2016 never cam to fruition, and there are even rumors that this was merely a faux-trailer or even a self-contained short film.

Sure, the effects look a few years behind those on display in Godzilla: King of the Monsters (synopsis and trailer below), but I’d definitely have paid to see two hours of this on a big screen! Give it a spin and let us know what you think of the Gamera trailer in the comments below or on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram!
