Five Finger Death Punch Officially Split with Longtime Drummer Jeremy Spencer

Since launching in 2005, the lineup of the popular thrash metal band Five Finger Death Punch has gone through several changes. Now, sadly, we’re getting word that the band is parting ways with the only member who’s been around since Day 1. Drummer Jeremy Spencer is permanently leaving the band he co-founded.

The news isn’t a huge shock to fans of 5FDP. Spencer sat out the band’s most recent tour following back surgery that required significant recovery time; plus, Spencer recently told fans that he had undergone additional surgeries. In his absence, the band has been touring with drummer Charlie Engen, but it’snot certain if he will be Spencer’s permeant replacement.

Spencer released the following statement:

“This decision has been weighing on me for months, and now the time has finally come! started to play when I was six years old, and I feel fortunate that my body has provided me with several decades of doing what I love most: drumming. However, the rigorous physical wear and tear has got me to the point where I feel I can no longer deliver a performance that brings me satisfaction and joy. I feel the band deserves to get someone with the fire and energy, capable of delivering the performance that the fans deserve. Like you, I will be cheering them on to continue making great music as they tour the world and bring exciting shows to all our cherished fans.”

After serving as the backbone for 5FDP for over a decade, it’s time for Spencer to take care of his own backbone. All of us here at Dread Central wish him a speedy recovery and an eventual return to rock music. We’re rooting for you!
