James Wan Describes Scene Cut from AQUAMAN as “Clouds of Blood Billowing Everywhere”

Aquaman 2018 Poster - James Wan Describes Scene Cut from AQUAMAN as “Clouds of Blood Billowing Everywhere”

We’ve been following the production of Aquaman since its inception for one main reason: It’s helmed by 21st Century Master of Horror James Wan, architect of such powerhouse franchises as SawInsidious, and The Conjuring. This Friday, genre fans will finally know for sure if Wan delivers a truly nightmarish Aquaman, or another watered-down superhero flick that only barely dips its toes into horror territory.

Wan is currently making the rounds in support of Aquaman and he told the folks at Heroic Hollywood about a scene that didn’t make the final cut. It was a sequence that sounds horrifying and ridiculous in equal measure.

“[There was] a really quirky out-there [sequence]…it wasn’t the studio, it was me that said, ‘I don’t know if we can have that in there, that’s a bit weird.’ As much as I loved it.

“He had this sequence where… Aquaman has been apprehended by King Orm and he’s been thrown into this dungeon. Like this really awful prison deep in Atlantis. He ends up starting a prison riot, where all the guards are sharks. They were shark-guards, like all shark head…and he kills one of the shark guards and the shark starts bleeding and then that starts a feeding frenzy among all the other shark guards. It just went nuts. We’re talking like clouds of blood billowing everywhere and he uses that to escape. I was like ‘Holy crap, I don’t know if I can do that.’”

Give the synopsis and trailer for Aquaman a spin below.

Synopsis:
Once home to the most advanced civilization on Earth, the city of Atlantis is now an underwater kingdom ruled by the power-hungry King Orm. With a vast army at his disposal, Orm plans to conquer the remaining oceanic people — and then the surface world. Standing in his way is Aquaman, Orm’s half-human, half-Atlantean brother and true heir to the throne. With help from royal counselor Vulko, Aquaman must retrieve the legendary Trident of Atlan and embrace his destiny as protector of the deep.

Aquaman stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, and Willem Dafoe.
