CHILD’S PLAY Remake Announces Release Date, Unveils New Poster & Launches Official Twitter

It’s not that we don’t want to see more Child’s Play/Chucky movies, but we don’t need a competing, rebooted franchise when series mastermind Don Mancini is still actively maintaining the original. Still, that’s not stopping Orion for moving full-steam ahead on a rebooted Child’s Play with Lars Klevberg (Polaroid) directing from a screenplay penned by Tyler Burton Smith.

Today, Orion announced that Child’s Play will hit theaters on June 21st, 2019 (the Summer Solstice, although I imagine this fact is merely a coincidence). The announcement came with an official poster (above); simultaneously, producers launched an official Child’s Play Twitter account.

Though the synopsis on IMDB is minimal (“A mother gives her son a toy doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature”) we’ve been told that the new Chucky (Buddi?) won’t be possessed, but rather a case of artificial intelligence run amok. We don’t have a trailer yet, but one can’t be too far down the pike; we’ll keep you posted as details emerge, so stay tuned!

Child’s Play will star Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry, and Gabriel Bateman.
