Hunter Cast in Oz Perkins’ GRETEL AND HANSEL

We’ve seen the classic fairy tale Hansel and Gretel reimagined through a horror lens in recent genre offerings like Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters and Hansel & Gretel Get Baked. Now, The Blackcoat’s Daughter writer/director Osgood “Oz” Perkins will take a crack at it with Gretel and Hansel, currently in development.

Yesterday brought news that British thespian Charles Babalola has been cast as the Hunter; he’ll star alongside IT’s Sophia Lillis who’s been hired to play Gretel.

Per Deadline:

Osgood Perkins will direct the feature from a screenplay he wrote with Rob Hayes (Netflix’s Chewing Gum). Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Sinister) and Fred Berger (La La Land) will produce. Sandra Yee Ling will executive produce. Dan Kagan is overseeing on behalf of Orion Pictures.

It’ll be a while before this nebulous project begins to solidify, so check back often for updates. In the meantime, you can check out the synopsis and trailer for The Blackcoat’s Daughter, released in 2016.

Synopsis:
During the dead of winter, a troubled young woman (Emma Roberts) embarks on a mysterious journey to an isolated prep school where two stranded students (Kiernan Shipka, Lucy Boynton) face a sinister threat from an unseen evil force.
