Horror fans remember him best as the man behind the hockey mask in 2009’s Friday the 13th reboot; now, Derek Mears will be playing the titular vegetable-based antihero in the Swamp Thing TV series currently in the works at DC Universe. The news also came with casting news regarding Mears’ human counterpart: Andy Bean will play biologist Alec Holland.
According to THR:
Swamp Thing, adapted from the DC Entertainment comic character created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, is being produced by [James Wan’s] Atomic Monster in association with Warner Bros. Television. The first episode of the series will be co-written by showrunners Mark Verheiden, whose credits include Battlestar Galactica and Daredevil, and IT screenwriter Gary Dauberman, with Len Wiseman directing.
