THE PURGE TV Series Renewed for 2nd Season

The Purge TV series on USA, based on the film series of the same name, has been renewed for a second season. Whether by design or coincidence, The Purge has become one of the most politically relevant horror franchises of the 21st Century. It’s set in an alternate version of American run by a totalitarian regime; the titular “Purge” refers to an annual 12-hour event during which all crime, including murder, is legal.

The Purge TV Series struck a chord with horror fans, and Jason Blum, whose Blumhouse TV also produces the show, is elated:

“James Demonaco has done it again: the propulsive and compelling story he crafted for Season 1 of The Purge truly resonated with audiences in a significant way. We are thrilled to embark on Season 2, and can’t wait to bring more of James’ vision to USA and fans of The Purge.”

According to yesterday’s press release:

THE PURGE Season 1 was executive produced by the film franchise creator James DeMonaco and Thomas Kelly. Additionally, the entire team behind the blockbuster franchise ‎executive produced: Michael Bay with Brad Fuller and Andrew Form under the Platinum Dunes banner and Sebastien K. Lemercier. The series is a co-production with Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Television and Universal Cable Productions.

No word yet on a target release for The Purge Season 2, but we’ll keep our ears to the ground in order to bring you all Purge-related news as details emerge. Stay tuned!

Synopsis:
During a 12-hour period when all crime — including murder — is legal, a group of seemingly unrelated characters cross paths in a city in an altered America. While the clock winds down, some will fight, some will hide, others will embrace what it means to purge to its fullest extent — whether for revenge, personal gain, protection, or unadulterated glee. As each character is forced to reckon with his or her past and plot how to better their futures, they soon discover how far they will go on Purge Night.
