Somehow This is Doom II Mod and I’m Blown Away

The abilities of some computer game designers and modders sometimes blows my mind. Who would honestly believe that Doom II, a game that came out in 1994, would be at the center of a passionate and dedicated community that creates new, fresh, exciting, and original mods that aims to give players radically unique and updated experiences that are in line with the changes made to video games over more than two decades. Seriously, some of the things people are doing are beyond impressive, I promise you this!

To give you an example of what I’m talking about, yesterday saw the release of Total Chaos, a mod that’s been in the works for several years. A total conversion mod for Doom II, the system runs on GZDoom and Zandronum, and throws people into an open-world survival horror experience on an island called Fort Oasis. As the developers explain, “…the player has freedom of choice of either finding the lost community, surviving on their own against the islands deadly forces, or explore Fort Oasis to uncover its most hidden secrets.”

Now, I could sit here and wax poetic about the mod all day long but unless I show you actual images from it, I damn well better believe I’ll be met with a healthy, and understandable, amount of criticism. So, lemme show you a bit of what Total Chaos looks like.

Seriously, what the shit!

Look how good this enemy looks!

Lighting effects like this in something based off Doom II‘s platform?!

It’s a body carrying its own head! C’mon!!!

Anyone else getting major Condemned vibes?

And for those of you who still have trouble believing this is all based off of Doom II‘s foundations, just look at what you can do through the game’s terminal!

PINKIES EVERYWHERE!!!

If you want to download and play Total Chaos, all you have to do is head here and follow the instructions!
