Images Unearthed of Banned (Supposedly Destroyed) NIGHTMARE ON MY STREET Fresh Prince Video

Back in the late 1980s, Will Smith’s hip-hop duo, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince, recorded an unauthorized theme-song for A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Despite the fact that A Nightmare on My Street reached #15 on Billboard’s Hot 100, New Line was none too pleased with an unauthorized track and video sullying up the Nightmare filmography.  A contentious legal battle ensued before all parties settled out-of-court.  An interesting review of the entire case can be seen at the website Leagle: HERE.

Under the terms of the settlement, DJ Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince were allowed to keep A Nightmare on My Street on their album; they were even permitted to release the track as a single.  A disclaimer was added to all future pressings: “[This song] is not part of the soundtrack…and is not authorized, licensed, or affiliated with the Nightmare on Elm Street films.”

The video, however, was ordered to be destroyed—or was it? It’s certainly never seen the light of day, but images from A Nightmare on My Street just appeared on MovieWeb! Have a look-see below:

“We now have our first look ever at the now infamous canceled music video for the Fresh Prince’s A Nightmare on My Street, thanks to director/production designer, Greg W. Harrison. The song had DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince battling iconic slasher Freddy Krueger. Though the rap track appeared on their huge hit album He’s the DJ, I’m the Rapper, when it came time to release the video, New Line Cinema shut it down quick”

Though the actual video may never be seen in its entirety, there’s an awesome fan-made video produced by DJOG80 that made the rounds a few years back. Give it a spin below.
