Theory: SNOWPIERCER is a Sequel to WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY

Fan theories are some of the most fascinating things out there. People can find a thread in one movie and connect it to another in what may first seem trivial but quickly becomes entirely convincing to the point that it becomes difficult to disassociate the two. Such is the case with YouTuber Rhino Stew and his theory that Bong Joon-Ho’s 2013 post-apocalypse film Snowpiercer is, in reality, a direct sequel to the 1971 musical classic Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Look, I get it. That makes no sense, right? Who in their right mind would believe that such a connection is even remotely possible? Even I went into the video with a hell of a lot of skepticism. Turns out, Rhino not only presents a convincing argument, he downright nails the theory to the point that even I’m questioning if this really was the intention of the filmmakers.

While some of the character arcs take some liberty with assumptions, there are a few threads that absolutely work and, in a strange twist of fate, serve to make both films darker than they already were. Those poor Oompa Loompas…
