Narrative Horror Video Game ALAN WAKE Getting Live-Action TV Series

Alan Wake is a beautiful anomaly in the world of gaming; it’s something of an immersive narrative that pulls you in and never lets you go. Remedy Entertainment describes it as “the mind of a psychological thriller” and “the body of a cinematic action game” combined. It follows best-selling horror writer Alan Wake whose wife goes missing in the vacation town of Bright Falls, Washington.

Alan Wake is the dreamchild of Sam Lake, who spent over 5 years developing the game before its release. His attention to detail paid off; it took the number one spot on Time Magazine’s Best Video Games of 2010 lists. Alan Wake spawned Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, a standalone released in 2012.

Now, we’re getting word that a live-action Alan Wake TV series is in the works, with Peter Calloway (Cloak & Dagger, Legion) on board as showrunner. It’s only a concept at this point, but Variety claims several studios have already expressed interest.

Contradiction [Films] partner Tomas Harlan said the plan is to start shopping the show around in October with Calloway’s full pitch. He said he’s already seen initial interest from a number of studios.

“Alan Wake was basically a TV series that was put into a game,” Harlan told Variety. “That was Sam [Lake’s] vision. It was influenced by The Twilight Zone, Secret Window, Hitchcock, Northern Exposure, a lot of U.S. television,” he said. “We plan to work closely with Sam on this show. Sam is a huge part of this. This is his baby.”

Obviously, this project is in its earliest stages, so don’t expect anything concrete to materialize for a while. In the meantime, you can check out the trailer for Alan Wake’s PC/Stream launch below.
