American Horror Story is entering its 8th season tonight with the premiere of Apocalypse on FX at 10 PM. While other shows that have gone on this long have gotten stale (I’m looking at you, The Walking Dead) the anthology nature of American Horror Story has allowed the series to remain fresh. Its versatile nature allows showrunner Ryan Murphy to explore new trends, like with the found footage/docu-drama style of Roanoke and respond to sociopolitical anxieties like in Cult.
Season 1 and Season 3 have been two of the most popular chapters to date, and while Apocalypse will have a unique storyline, it’s also a mash-up/crossover of Murder House and Coven. Since all previous seasons have been standalones with occasional crossover characters, Apocalypse may require some advanced study to be fully enjoyed.
Since the time to re-watch Murder House and Coven in advance of Apocalypse’s premiere has long past, you can bone up on your American Horror Story history with the recap videos below, courtesy of GameStop Universe. Of course, it’s difficult to recap an entire season in under 10 minutes, and there’s no telling which threads Murphy and company will be following; still, they’re nonetheless valuable resources—especially if your memory is as rusty as mine sometimes is!
