R.I.P. Burt Reynolds: DELIVERANCE/BOOGIE NIGHTS Star Has Passed Away at 82

It’s with heavy hearts that we’re getting news that Burt Reynolds has passed away. Though most famous for the drama Boogie Nights and the comedy Smokey and the Bandt, cinema fans on both sides of the horror aisle will always remember his complicated, arresting portrayal of Lewis in 1972’s Deliverance. Whatever genre you consider your favorite, Reynolds was a national treasure and he’ll be sorely missed.

One of his most recent projects was The Last Movie Star, a film directed by Adam Rifkin. He spoke fondly of the actor during a recent interview we conducted for the release of Director’s Cut from Dread Central Presents. In his 2015 memoir, But Enough About Me, the actor lamented not taking more risks during his career:

“I didn’t open myself to new writers or risky parts because I wasn’t interested in challenging myself as an actor. I was interested in having a good time. As a result, I missed a lot of opportunities to show I could play serious roles. By the time I finally woke up and tried to get it right, nobody would give me a chance.”

THR reports that Reynolds passed away at Jupiter Medical Center in Florida, according to his manager, Erik Kritzer. All of us here at Dread Central would like to express our deepest condolences to Reynolds’ family, friends, and fans. He was one in a billion and his legacy will endure.

Synopsis:
An aging screen icon gets lured into accepting an award at a rinky-dink film festival in Nashville, Tenn., sending him on a hilarious fish-out-of-water adventure and an unexpectedly poignant journey into his past.
