South Korea’s RAMPANT Looks Like a Historical TRAIN TO BUSAN

Fans of South Korea’s horror megahit Train to Busan will want to take note: We’ve just gotten our first look at a poster and teaser for Rampant, also from South Korea. Some words that instantly spring to mind include chaotic, frenetic, vicious, bloody, and one-hell-of-an-entertaining-ride! (Yes, I realize that last one is a string of words, but give the trailer a spin and we think you’ll agree it’s more than fitting!)

The biggest difference between the two films is the era in which Rampant takes place; it’s set during the Qing Dynasty. Have a look at the synopsis and the teaser below.

Synopsis:
Lee Chung is a Prince of Joseon, but he has been taken hostage to the Qing Dynasty. He enjoys boozing, womanizing and gambling. He is also an excellent swordsman. His older brother Lee Young will succeed to the throne and brings Lee Chung to Joseon. He returns after more than 10 years. Soon, Lee Chung faces monsters that run rampant in the night.

Rampant is written and directed by Sung-hoon Kim whose past films include Confidential Assignment and My Little Hero; the film stars Dong-Gun Jang, Hyun Bin, and Eui-sung Kim. While we don’t have a release date or distribution information, it’s set to bow in South Korea sometime this October. Hopefully, it’ll hit international markets soon after. We’ll keep you posted as details emerge, so stay tuned!

Train to Busan was the highest grossing film out of South Korea in 2016, pulling in close to $100M in that country alone. Time will tell if Rampant will experience the same phenomenal success.
