Gamescom 2018: CLOSE TO THE SUN Trailer Will Give You Maritime Chills
A new horror game called Close to the Sun was featured at Gamescom, which takes place onboard a 19th century ship designed by famed inventor Nikola Tesla. Whilst you may not have heard of it, the game has been picking up multiple accolades at events, so it’s definitely worth a look. Have a look at the gameplay trailer below if you feel in the mood for maritime chills.
We can see that the ship you’ll be navigating once appeared to be a paradise, before it was infiltrated by an evil force and turned into something resembling Hell on Earth. The idea of a utopian environment being defaced by a horrific and sinister outside presence gives Close to the Sun a strong Bioshock vibe, as does the first-person gameplay, which mixes exploration with puzzle-solving. It looks like Close to the Sun will focus on atmosphere over action, something many horror games forget to do these days.
Close to the Sun is being developed by Italian studio Storm in a Teacup, and it takes its name from the tale of Icarus from Greek mythology, who fell into the sea and drowned after his wings melted when he flew too close to the sun. Whilst no firm release date was given, the trailer confirmed that we expect to get closer to the sun next year. We’ll definitely be keeping a close eye on this one until then.
