THE WITCHES Remake Snags One of the Biggest Directors of All-Time

At one point, director Guillermo del Toro was attached to direct a new adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic 1973 kid-horror novel The Witches, and today we have word Del Toro is still producing the film but a new director will be taking the helm.

Yes, Variety reports today that Robert Zemeckis will be taking up writing and directing duties. Zemeckis is best known for being one of the best directors out there, helming such classics as Cast Away, What Lies Beneath, Death Becomes Her, Forrest Gump, the Back to the Future trilogy, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

Along with multiple episodes of Tales from the Crypt.

This new take on the book will be produced by Del Toro, Alfonso Cuaron (Gravity, Children of Men, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban), and Jack Rapke and is said to be more in line the original source material than Warner Bros.’ previous adaptation starring Anjelica Huston, which was more of a loose adaptation.
