It was a whopping two years ago we shared the news with you guys that producer Peter Block (The Ward, Frozen) acquired the rights to the Pumpkinhead franchise and plans on shooting a reboot of the horror series in 2017.
That never happened, but today we have word via Deadline that the remake has a scribe in S. Darko screenwriter Nate Atkins. Block will produce and plans a theatrical release.
The original 1988 Pumpkinhead starred Aliens actor Lance Henriksen and was the directorial debut of late makeup effects legend Stan Winston and has over time accrued a large cult following.
After his son dies in a hit-and-run accident, Ed Harley (Lance Henriksen) seeks revenge against the teenagers responsible. With the help of a local witch (Florence Schauffler), Ed summons the vengeful demon Pumpkinhead to hunt and kill the group of friends. But when Ed discovers a bond between himself and the creature, he begins to have second thoughts about employing the vicious monster, and he fights to end Pumpkinhead’s murderous rampage before it is too late.
