The Real Reason Shane Black Directed THE PREDATOR

Later this summer we will be hit by Shane Black and Fred Dekker’s reboot The Predator starring Tom Jane. And one of the cooler bits of trivia that I’m sure you know – but it will still impress your friends – is that Black played a significant role in the original film by John McTiernan.

He played Hawkins. And that was always, we felt, reason enough for Black to sign on to direct the classic alien action film’s newest installment. But it turns out, Black has other reasons as well.

I just thought that it was a great, iconic alien,” Black told Cinema Blend. “And, what separated it from other alien invasion movies wasn’t just a space plot, it was an actual space creature with a mythos and a sense of honor, in some respect. A mission. And, a sense of humor, oddly. The idea of the game it plays. It’s rare that the Predator shows humor, but there are moments where you see it almost look at someone like, ‘Really?’

The Predator is directed by Shane Black from a script written by Black and Fred Dekker and stars Boyd Holbrook, Jacob Tremblay, Yvonne Strahovski, Olivia Munn, Keegan-Michael Key, Sterling K. Brown, Trevante Rhodes, Thomas Jane, Augusto Aguilera, Jake Busey, and Edward James Olmos. The film hits theaters nationwide September 14, 2018.

Synopsis:

From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.
