Bad Robot’s Nazi-Zombie Horror Movie OVERLORD Lands Hard R Rating

At this year’s CinemaCon, J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot premiered footage from their upcoming zombie-WWII flick Overlord. We’ve heard the footage was R-rated as hell, and Abrams himself has even boasted that the movie will be Bad Robot’s first R-rated film, but today we have official word that this wasn’t all a bunch of promotional B.S.

Yes, the MPAA has just announced that Overlord has been rated R for “strong bloody violence, disturbing images, language, and brief sexual content.”

Damn, those are a ton of good reasons for your film to be slapped with the big, old R, aren’t they? As if I need a reason to be more excited about this film, confirmation that it will be a big-budget trip through hell itself via J.J. Abrams and crew sounds too good to be true. Almost. We’ll see.

Are you excited for another Cloverfield film and/or Overlord? Make sure to let us know in the comments below or on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram!

Overlord is directed by Julius Avery from a script written by Billy Ray and Mark L. Smith and stars Wyatt Russell, Iain De Caestecker, Pilou Asbæk, and Jovan Adepo. J.J. Abrams and Lindsey Weber produce.

The film hits theaters October 26th.

Synopsis:

On the eve of D-Day, paratroopers drop behind enemy lines to carry out a crucial mission for the invasion. As they approach their target, they soon begin to realize there’s more going on in the Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation.
