Troma’s TOXIC AVENGER Remake Coming Soon?

A few months back we let you guys know the unfortunate news that while once upon a time Kevin Smith was in talks to reboot Troma’s flagship character The Toxic Avenger, he ultimately turned down the film handing over directing duties to Conrad Vernon (Sausage Party). Since that announcement, word has been quiet on the planned remake. Until today that is.

Today we have word via SFX magazine that Troma Entertainment chief Lloyd Kaufman hopes to get the new film rolling soon.

Conrad Vernon, who directed Shrek 2 and Sausage Party is attached,” Kaufman said. “I have spoken to him and he knows all the Troma movies and is a big fan. I think he really understands The Toxic Avenger and I believe he will bring a cartoon sensibility to it. This is his first live-action movie and we hope it gets rolling soon.”

Do you think Conrad Vernon is the right choice for a new Toxie flick? Make sure to hit us up and let us know what you think in the comments below or on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram!

The original film was directed by Michael Herz and Lloyd Kaufman (credited as Samuel Weil) and written by Kaufman and Joe Ritter. It starred Mitch Cohen, Mark Torgl, Andree Maranda, and Pat Ryan Jr.

We’ll let you know when we hear more on the remake!

Synopsis:

A 98-pound nerd (Mark Torgl) from New Jersey lands in a vat of toxic waste and becomes a benevolent monster (Mitchell Cohen).
