Exclusive: STRUNG OUT Go Post-Apocalyptic in “Requiem”

When it comes to punk rock, one of the more undiscovered yet powerful and exciting bands is California’s Strung Out, who have been bringing their unique blend of punk, metal, and even touches of prog rock, since 1989. Coming out this Friday is the band’s latest EP Black Out The Sky, which features six brand new tracks as well as two acoustic versions of previous titles.

In anticipation of this upcoming release, we’ve teamed up with the band to bring you the exclusive music video premiere for their track “Requiem”. Starting softly, the song builds through to a climactic and emotional journey while the video mixes EC Comics-esque cartoons and a post-apocalyptic world that feels like a Satanic blend of Mad Max and Turbo Kid. If that doesn’t pique your interest then no gnome-stick for you!

Vocalist Jason Cruz explains, “The video plays like a another chapter to the ‘Live in Dive’ comic we did a few years back. I wanted the video to be super creepy and campy but classic Strung Out. Just because we decided to do an acoustic EP doesn’t mean that we’ve lost our edge or our sense of humor.

You can pick up your copy of Black Out the Sky via Fat Wreck Chords. The band will be doing an EP release party on May 18 at The Regent in Los Angeles where they’ll be playing with LA Armada and Twilight Creeps.
