God of War Becomes the Highest Rated PS4 Exclusive On Metacritic

If you’ve been paying any attention to the video game press over the last couple of days, you’ll know that God of War has been receiving some truly spectacular reviews. So much so, in fact, that it’s now the highest-rated PlayStation 4 exclusive game on Metacritic of all time, with an astounding score of 95%. The only PS4 games to score equal or higher are Grand Theft Auto V and The Last of Us, both of which were enhanced ports of previous PS3 releases.

God of War, which was developed by Sony Santa Monica, does away with the Greek mythology setting that was prevalent in the previous games, with Kratos, having destroyed the Olympian gods many years prior, now embarking on a quest with his son Atreus to scatter his wife’s ashes atop a sacred mountain.

Particular points of praise from reviewers were went towards the realistic graphics, the Norse mythological setting, the revamped combat system, the use of a continuous camera shot with no cuts, and the performances of Christopher Judge and Sunny Suljic as Kratos and Atreus. And as you would have come to expect from the franchise by now, the game is also as violent and brutal as it gets, so much so that the ESRB even promised that we’ll be able to tear off enemies’ jaws.

God of War will hit stores on April 20.
