Rest in Peace: R. Lee Ermey

It is with a heavy heart that we write about the passing of iconic actor R. Lee Ermey, who died earlier today at the age of 74. He was known to horror fans for his work in films such as Seven, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Frighteners, and one could argue that the first half of Full Metal Jacket builds and acts like its own kind of horror film.

Ermey’s long time manager Bill Rogin released an official statement saying, “It is with deep sadness that I regret to inform you all that R. Lee Ermey (“The Gunny”) passed away this morning from complications of pneumonia. He will be greatly missed by all of us.

Semper Fi, Gunny. Godspeed.

A military man, Ermey was known for his drill sergeant-esque roles, where he would command a scene with his biting chops and fierce delivery. His presence could not be denied and his charisma was infectious.

We send our deepest condolences to his family in this sad time.
