Scream Scribe Kevin Williamson Signs Big “Elevated Genre” Deal at Miramax

Looks like Scream scribe Kevin Williamson is about to be back in a big way.

Today Deadline is reporting that Miramax has signed Williamson to a new first-look deal to develop “elevated genre film content.” My God, how I hate that new f*cking phrase.

Anyhow, Williamson will set up offices in the studio as the first overall deal made since Miramax’s recent relaunch under Bill Block.

“We are delighted for Kevin and his creative forces to return to his filmmaking roots with our company,” Block said. “Kevin’s diverse talents are the perfect fit for Miramax who is looking to support talent across all platforms.”

“I’m thrilled to be partnering with Bill Block,” Williamson said. “And to be back in the feature space working with new filmmakers in the genre I love so much.”

I guess we’ll have to wait and see if Williamson gets to work on reboots of some of his classic flicks (Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Faculty, etc) but until then we’ll just have to salivate and speculate on the possibilities.

Miramax has The Perfection starring Allison Williams (Get Out) coming up along with a little movie called Halloween from Blumhouse. Needless to say, I’m looking forward to Miramax’s new “elevated genre content” even if I despise that label.

Scream (1996) Synopsis:

The sleepy little town of Woodsboro just woke up screaming. There’s a killer in their midst who’s seen a few too many scary movies. Suddenly nobody is safe, as the psychopath stalks victims, taunts them with trivia questions, then rips them to bloody shreds. It could be anybody…
