Last week we brought you up-to-speed on a zombie walk being organized in Hollywood to benefit local under-funded school districts (thanks, Governator). This week we go all the way across the country to Rosendale, New York, where the undead will again shuffle, limp and meander in the name of charity.
On Saturday, September 17th, beginning at noon, the Rosendale Zombie Festival will be celebrating all things undead and raising money for the Rosendale Food Pantry. The suggested donation is just $5 per attendee with all proceeds going directly to the Rosendale Food Pantry.
After a successful initial event last year, festival organizer Lara Hope is optimistic the second annual Rosendale Zombie Festival will eclipse the success of last year’s happening. “Last year was gruesome,” Hope said. “This year will tear your heart out.”
The festivities kick off at noon with all zombies requested to gather in the Willow Kiln Park behind the Rosendale Theater. And don’t worry if you aren’t a zombie make-up expert. The one and only, often imitated but never duplicated Captain Cruella Moxham (organizer of the Saugerties Zombie Crawl) will have a zombie make-up booth set up where she will zombify you for a very small fee. The zombie walk staggers to a start at 12:30 pm.
At 1:00 pm, the music will kick off. In addition to a DJ, live music will be performed by Tiger Piss, The High Five Revival, The Blind Ambassadors and Ratboy. And at 4:00 pm the costume contest commences with tons of horrific prizes.
At 5:00 pm festival-goers are encouraged to check out the classic horror film White Zombie (discounted tickets for those in zombie costume).
Also in attendance will be noted Hudson Valley writer Linda Zimmerman, author of Hudson Valley Zombie Apocalypse. Zimmerman will be offering one of the costume contest winners a chance to be written into her zombie book. Hello, immortality!
And we can’t forget to announce that the Hudson Valley Horrors Roller Derby team will be skating amongst the undead!
Sounds like a great time for a great cause. Good to see undead walkers from coast to coast showing the giving spirit of horror fans! Check out the Facebook home of the Rosendale Zombie Festival for additional updates.
