Depp Casts a Dark Shadow
Know how you can tell when a project has staying power? When decades after its release people are still talking about it.
Such is the case with the horror soap opera Dark Shadows. The tale of vampire patriarch Barnabas Collins and his family woes has fascinated viewers for quite some time. A couple of years ago there was talk of a new version of the show being put on the air, but much to chagrin of fans everywhere, it never happened. Things have been quiet. Until now.
Variety reports today that Warner Bros. is teaming with Johnny Depp’s Infinitum-Nihil and Graham King’s GK Films to develop a feature based on the ’60s daytime supernatural sudser Dark Shadows.
Why? Because Depp claims that he has been “obsesseed with Dark Shadows” since he was a kid and is hungry to step into the role made famous by Jonathan Frid. Me? I’m just happy Depp’s hanging up the Pirate hat and getting back to business. Screw the flamboyant Captain (I found the monkey more interesting)! Bring on the bloodthirsty vamp! Thanks, I’ll wait.
