The Strangers: Prey at Night Set Visit Part 1: The Trailer Park

Down the backroads of northern Kentucky sit 55 acres of hilly land where a neighborhood once stood. The asphalt that crisscrosses through the area is all that’s left. The streets are void of lights, and the plots where houses once stood are now visited mainly by fireflies and deer. Decades ago the homes were demolished, but something else has a home here. Something is stalking in the shadows: The Strangers.

Once someone has traveled far enough into this deserted community, a thriving production can be found. A new population has taken over, breathing life into the land. The cast and crew of The Strangers: Prey at Night have created a living, breathing residential setting for the next installment of the popular slasher flick. Since the land was devoid of everything aside from trees and paved roads, Aviron Pictures had a blank canvas in which to create the setting for the film.

The Strangers: Prey at Night takes place at an unspecified time after the original, but the new setting does share the same isolated feel. Gatlin Lake Getaway is the fictional trailer park where Baghead, Dollface, and Pinup find their new batch of victims. To create a community comprised of mobile homes from scratch, production designer Freddy Waff had to do a healthy amount of legwork. Twenty-two mobile homes were saved from being scrapped and stationed throughout the defunct neighborhood. Each home was dressed inside and out complete with gravel driveways, street lights, lawn furniture and a dose of isolation.

Imagery that comes to mind when the term “trailer park” is mentioned usually means a number of rectangular homes packed right next to each other row after row. In Gatlin Lake, however, the homes have a good quarter-acre between each. It is entirely believable that something horrible may happen in one trailer without the closest neighbor even having the slightest inkling that something is amiss.

Synopsis:
A family’s road trip takes a dangerous turn when they arrive at a secluded mobile home park to stay with some relatives and find it mysteriously deserted. Under the cover of darkness, three masked psychopaths pay them a visit to test the family’s every limit as they struggle to survive..
