The horror film Rideshare is currently negotiating distribution, and while we wait for an update, a new trailer has arrived.  To commemorate the occasion, we chatted with Syd Wilder, one of its stars, for a “fast five” about the film and a few other topics, including what movie always gets her in the Halloween spirit.

In Rideshare, which centers around a popular ride sharing app called Hitch, Wilder stars as Alissa, a party girl who takes a ride from Hitch after a late night out and may or not make it to her final destination. With her extensive background in acting, producing, writing, comedy, and more, we were excited to hear what Syd had to say… read on for our Q&A with her below.

Dread Central: You’re quite the Renaissance woman – producer, director, writer, actor, comedian, and even a digital influencer. It’s probably hard to pick a favorite, but do you find one more rewarding as an artist? And as a woman, have there been any particular avenues that you’ve found to be more accepting of you than the others?

Syd Wilder: Thank you very much for the compliment! The most rewarding thing for me as an artist is getting to create and produce a project, whether it’s a 5-minute sketch, 30-minute sitcom, or a dance sequence that I’m passionate about. I love the entire process of writing a project, going into production, working as a talent, editing, and showing the project to the world. I’m always hoping my content will make people laugh or inspire them in some way but I can’t escape those, “I hate you” comments which low key make me laugh.

The brand I’ve built as a hot Instagram model is starting to work against me in the entertainment business and it’s starting to diminish my credibility as an artist. I’m working on a slow transition with my brand now. If Miley and Madonna can rebrand, so can I!

DC: You were an executive producer on Night of the Living Deb, which met with a pretty positive reception from the horror crowd, and also appeared in the film. How did you get involved in that, and were you a fan of the genre?

SW: I was happy it was so well reviewed! I met Kyle Rankin on-set of a talk show I co-hosted with producer Brad Wyman called “Get Funded.” Kyle was a guest on the show trying to raise money for NOTLD, and when I saw the trailer, I thought it would be a good investment. The first role I booked in my acting career was a horror film so I’ll always have a love for horror. I am also known to have a great scream, and I’ve died a lot in my career!

DC: What can you tell us about Rideshare and how your “party girl” character fits into the storyline – does your comic background come into play at all?

SW: I play Alissa, and she is your typical, crazy party girl! I love playing those girls because they are the exact opposite of who I actually am every day. My comedy chops don’t come into play for this role, but I did rehearse my lines with my 80-year-old grandma. That was hysterical!

DC: The producers are currently negotiating Rideshare‘s distribution; as a filmmaker yourself, what do you think of all the various release platforms there are to choose from these days? Does it help the smaller indie films or just make it that much harder to get noticed?

SW: I think it’s wonderful for beginning filmmakers to have all these different options to release their work. The internet has made everything very saturated, but if your content and marketing plan is good, your work will be seen. Although down the road I can definitely see a problem for filmmakers and investors having trouble getting their ROI [return on investment] because of the plethora of platform options.

DC: Lastly, with Halloween on the horizon, what is your favorite horror film to watch to get into the spirit?

SW: Scream. All-time favorite!
