Vlad, the undiscovered country! For me the vampire subgenre feels dead. The Blade series turned Dracula into a daywalking poster boy for Lifestyles Gym chains, and the direct-to-DVD market is too caught up in cheap zombie flicks to bother with bloodsuckers. Joining Alex on this journey through the famous vampire’s past will be his old colleague Michael De Luca, who was the executive producer on Dark City.

Writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless set the project into motion about a year ago and feel strongly about exploring more of Vlad the Impaler’s life before he transformed into the cult icon we know him as today. Sharpless told Variety, “In our movie, he’s at the height of his powers.
