Add Some Lovecraft Flavor With Your Tiki Drink This Weekend

Back in mid-May, I posted a story about a “Twin Peaks” inspired cocktail called the Scotch Lodge. The channel that created the video, Distinguished Spirits, is now back and they’ve got an H.P. Lovecraft-themed Tiki drink called the Ancient Mariner. How fitting is that?

Jeremy, the voice and master behind Distinguished Spirits, explains, “The name of the drink is not actually an allusion to the classic, epic poem from 1798 by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, but rather an appraisal of how long it took Beachbum Berry, a tiki historian and the proprietor of the tiki bar Latitude 29 in New Orleans, to create and perfect this drink. Because by the time he got it right, he felt ancient.

I interpreted the name differently. I took the literary approach and was inspired by the H.P. Lovecraft story, The Call of Cthulhu. In this version, the Mariner is sailing perilously close to the Ancient One, which is basically what happens in the 3rd act of the Lovecraft story.

To see how everything comes together, check out the video below. And be safe with your drinking adventures! No need to call upon the Old Gods during a solid buzz, okay?
