Fans of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and the franchise it spawned are truly passionate about the series, I feel. Something about that set of films speaks to a certain group of horror fans in a way that I can’t possible try to understand.

One of those fans is Neil Oliver, the man behind www.texaschainsaw3.com, a place where he shows off (and sells) replica chainsaws as well as goes into the history of the chainsaws and masks seen in the 1990 film Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, which was directed by Jeff Burr and starred Ken Foree, Viggo Mortensen, and R.A. Mihailoff as “Leatherface”. In addition to that, Kane Hodder was the stunt coordinator on the film and also donned the Leatherface outfit, so who knows when how much he played Junior in the film?

Getting back to the point, Oliver recently spoke with James Woodley, who got his hands on one of the original prop masks from Leatherface. However, this mask was something special, something very unique. Together, the pair created a replica that they’re calling the “TCM Stunt” mask, of which only 20 were made and 12 have already sold! Anyone who wants to snag one of the remaining 8 can purchase one right here.

Below is the full story, direct from Oliver. Also, make sure to follow Neil’s work on Facebook.

Creator Neil Oliver told me the incredible story:
About a year ago I had a gentlemen contact my website letting me know he had purchased one of the original stunt masks from ‘Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III’. This instantly perked my interest because only three of the give original masks were known to still exist. KNB made give masks total in 1989 for the film. Two are believed to be hero masks, and three were “stunt masks”. One of the hero masks has been accounted for and restored, and now resides in Japan in a private collection. The other two stunt masks were also accounted for and both in the U.S. After filming was completed, the three stunt masks were given to Fangoria, who then had a giveaway contest for fans and subscribers. This newest stunt mask, the gentleman told me about, was in Australia. The guy who won it from Fangoria way back in 1990 had the mask in his collection the whole time until he put it on an auction site where this gentleman, James Woodley, won the auction.

Of course, I figured his mask was one I’d already seen in the past but, after he sent me pictures, we confirmed this was an all-new, unknown mask that was believed to have been lost to time. However, out of the now four known masks to still exist, James’ was the most well-preserved and was an unused production mask. It had no extra holes, no straps, and the signatures inside from Greg Nicotero and Kane Hodder were both still very visible and readable. It was almost perfect, other then the paint fading over 28 years.

James Woodley, the new owner of the stunt mask, works in the special effects industry on major films like Alien: Covenant, Aqua Man, Pacific Rim 2, and many more. He asked if I thought there would be any interest in a cast of the mask, since all we have ever had was artists renditions of Leatherface, and nothing that was 100% accurate to the real films mask. Distortions Unlimited were the only company to ever offer an official licensed mask, but even it was not very accurate, was mass produced, and we all know how the quality lacks on those kind of masks. I instantly said “Yes, the TCM world would love a mask cast from an original.” We talked and decided on a game plan in releasing the mask.

It took the better part of a year before we were finally ready to release it but we finally have. We are offering a limited run of only 20 “TCM3 Stunt”s and only have a handful of spots left before they are all gone. They are made from platinum silicone, painted with silicone paints, and no corners are cut in making it a film quality 1:1 replica of the original masks. They come with a custom made mask stand, foam head form, and a Certificate of Authenticity.

There has never been a mask like this ever offered in the TCM 3 world, and probably never will again. This is a top shelf high quality mask that any hardcore TCM fan would be proud to have in their collection.
