In what was pretty much seen as a foregone conclusion, The CW has announced that Kevin Williamson’s “The Secret Circle” will be joining its roster for the upcoming fall season. The only unknown at this point is on what day it be airing, but we wouldn’t be at all surprised to see it on Thursday nights after Williamson’s other popular series for the network, “The Vampire Diaries”.
“The Secret Circle” stars Britt Robertson (pictured below), Thomas Dekker, Gale Harold, Phoebe Tonkin, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Shelly Henning, Louis Hunter, Ashley Crow, and Natasha Henstridge and is described as the story of a young woman (Robertson) who moves to a new town and discovers that not only is she a witch and part of a secret coven, but she’s also the key that will unlock a centuries-old battle of good versus evil. Like “The Vampire Diaries”, the show is based on a series of books by L.J. Smith. It comes to us from Outerbanks Entertainment and Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios with executive producers Kevin Williamson, Andrew Miller, Leslie Morgenstein, and Gina Girolamo. The pilot was directed by Liz Friedlander (“The Vampire Diaries,” “90210”).
In other CW pickup news, it doesn’t sound like pure horror (more thriller-ish), but we thought you guys would like to know that the network also nabbed Sarah Michelle Gellar’s “Ringer”, which was originally developed for CBS. Per EW.com sources say CBS brass liked the script and loved the idea of casting Gellar, but once they saw the pilot, it didn’t feel on brand for the network. Luckily for Gellar’s fans, CBS’ sister station, The CW, jumped at the chance to have the Slayer back in its stable.
Here are the details for “Ringer”: Gellar stars as a woman who, after witnessing a murder, goes on the run, hiding out by assuming the life of her wealthy identical twin sister – only to learn that her sister’s seemingly idyllic life is just as complicated and dangerous as the one she’s trying to leave behind. The series co-stars Ioan Gruffudd, Kristoffer Polaha, Nestor Carbonell, Tara Summers, and Mike Colter. Executive producers are Pam Veasey, Peter Traugott, and Emmy Award-winner Richard Shepard, who also directed the pilot.
